Research In Motion is launching new BlackBerry handhelds that can move among next-generation networks in Europe, Asia and North America.

The new two-way messaging devices, which were demonstrated on Wednesday, are designed to "complement the increasing power of new 2.5G wireless networks worldwide," RIM co-chief executive Mike Lazaridis said in a release.

RIM is one of many companies trying to appeal to the corporate market with wireless network applications. So-called next-generation networks are able to handle faster data transmissions and a higher volumes of voice calls.

The 6710 and 6720 models, which were demonstrated on Wednesday at the CTIA Wireless IT and Internet trade show in Las Vegas, work with GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) networks. Both models can be used in Europe and Asia. The 6710 can also be used in North America.

The devices also include an integrated speaker and microphone, as well as a wireless modem. Prices and availability will vary depending on the country and the wireless carrier, RIM said.

Separately at the CTIA show, Hewlett-Packard and RIM announced plans to allow BlackBerry devices to send email and attachments to corporate network printers.
