Google has struck a deal to power Web search services for Sony's company sites. The deal marks the fledgling Web search engine's largest service deal to date, according to Google spokesman David Krane.

Google will provide technology to let people search for information on Sony's more than 300 worldwide corporate Web sites in 57 countries. Google has similar partnerships with sites such as Cisco Systems, Procter & Gamble, MarthaStewart.com and IDG. "This continues the momentum in providing search technology to sites around world," Krane said.

I wonder, who needs .asia domain? I cannot imagine, what would be useful for Microsoft.asia? Toyota.asia? Then let's register .europe (if .eu is too short). Or perhaps Microsoft.southamerica, Dell.australiaandnewzealand, Coca-Cola.africa... Sound funny? Then why not just use the global and country domains? Or perhaps it is time to drop the domains at all?
