Thieves stole 10,000 mobile phones worth a total of £3m on Sunday in what is being described as a meticulously planned raid.

The handsets were stolen from a warehouse at Heathrow this morning by a gang of six men. According to the Evening Standard the thieves kidnapped two employees of Hawk Precision Logistics late on Saturday night. The two men were held at gunpoint before being doused in petrol and forced to unlock the premises. The two employees were treated in hospital, and are reported to be badly shaken up.

The mobile phones stolen were Nokia 8850 and 8210's, worth around £300 each, which were packaged and ready for sale throughout Europe. "These are the very latest model mobile phones and the gang knew exactly what they were looking for. Everything had been meticulously planned," said Detective Chief Inspector Bernie Watson.

The raid is only thought to have taken 40 minutes. The gang is thought to have used two seven-ton, white box lorries, a smaller sky-blue lorry slightly larger than a Transit van and a red saloon car with a black sunroof.

A reward is being offered for information on the raid. Surrey police can be contacted on 01483 571212, or people can phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
