IBM wins UK Border Agency deal

The UK Border Agency has awarded a £3m contract to IBM to set up its immigration-casework management system.

The strategic system-integration deal, procured through the strategic supplier group framework established for the National Identity Scheme, is set to last for three years with the option to extend for a further four. The Home Office said further payments will depend on IBM continuing to meet price and delivery targets for the immigration-casework (ICW) system.

IBM beat EDS and Fujitsu to the deal, which has been signed within the end-2008 schedule given by the Identity and Passport Service's executive director Bill Crothers in May.

"The ICW programme is integral to our work as we carry out the biggest shake up of the immigration system for a generation," said UKBA's head of immigration Matthew Coats. "It will help us to make fast and fair decisions and manage migration for the benefit of the British public."
