Quickoffice has released a free iPhone application called MobileFiles, which lets users access their iDisk online storage accounts from Apple's popular handset.

Released on Tuesday, MobileFiles allows iPhone users to access, view, download and manage files hosted on their MobileMe iDisk accounts. Previously, access to files stored on an iDisk account is possible only from a desktop machine, even though it falls under the MobileMe brand. MobileMe is Apple's synchronisation tool for contacts, calendar and email, which iPhone users can access on their handsets.

MobileFiles is Quickoffice's first application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The company's office productivity software is already widely found on other mobile platforms, such as Symbian Series 60 and BlackBerry.

Quickoffice is not, however, the first third-party software maker to provide iDisk access from the iPhone  — Readdle's AI Disk application, which was released in October, offers a similar tool to iPhone users.
