Financial Services Technology Project of the Year at the 2008 CNET Networks UK Business Technology Awards was awarded to The Royal Bank of Scotland for the Shared Product Opportunity Tool.

For an industry dependent on gathering, analysing and acting on information, the banking sector has sometimes been slow to make the best use of data it already has.

ABM Amro — now part of The Royal Bank of Scotland — dealt with this through its Shared Product Opportunity Tool (Spot). This takes all of the information the bank knows about a client, across all activities, builds a complete and very valuable picture of the relationship and delivers it across the company. A good idea, well implemented.
