IBM on Thursday announced plans to acquire Language Analysis Systems, a maker of multicultural name recognition technologies. LAS' technology is designed to be used for such issues as ferreting out criminals who attempt to hide their identity through multiple variations of their name.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition is designed to enhance IBM's efforts to improve access, management and information delivery of its customers. Other buys IBM made as part of this effort include iPhrase, acquired late last year, and DWL, acquired in August.
