Indian company vTiger on Wednesday released vTiger 3.2, the first commercial version of its open source customer relationship management application.

The product is targeted at SMEs and includes various CRM modules such as lead management and security management. The security module allows administrators to define the roles of team members and restrict access to the modules according to each user's role.

Govind Pattabi, product manager of vTiger, said that vTiger is based on the code of SugarCRM 1.0 and includes various additional features, such as an Outlook plug-in. The SugarCRM open source license permits other companies to redistribute the software.

The vTiger application is available free of charge from the vTiger Web site or from Sourceforge. The company hopes to generate revenue from services and support.

Pattabi said the product has been beta tested by various companies over the last few months.
