PeopleSoft makes integration easier

PeopleSoft has released a set of updated performance tuning and data integration tools, which are the fruits of an ongoing effort to reduce the cost of maintaining its application software.
PeopleTools is a performance monitoring and software patching system for PeopleSoft's business-management systems. The new version includes updates for pinpointing bottlenecks and simplifying the installation of patches and new releases of the software, the company said on Tuesday. PeopleTools 8.44 works with the 8.4 version of the PeopleSoft Enterprise package as well as with subsequent releases.
PeopleSoft also has expanded its collection of Process Integration Packs, which are programs designed to link the company's set of applications to other business systems. The newest Integration Pack connects PeopleSoft's payroll system to the general ledger program of competitor SAP. The program, which consists of data transformation and routing tools, can reduce from months to weeks the time it takes stitch the two rivals' programs together, PeopleSoft said.
The company is working to tie its payroll system more closely to the general ledger system of J.D. Edwards, the software company that it acquired last year. In addition to an integration pack that's already available, PeopleSoft plans to release "pre-integrated" versions of the two programs in March that maintain data integrity by synchronising their master files. The project is part of a larger, multiyear effort to digest the technology PeopleSoft gained in the J.D. Edwards buyout.
In the meantime, PeopleSoft continues to fight a hostile acquisition bid by Oracle. PeopleSoft this week rejected a revised $9.4bn tender offer. The company is banking on the US Justice Department blocking the bid on anticompetitive grounds. A decision from the regulatory agency, which has been reviewing the deal for months, is expected in March.
