Device maker Handspring announced on Tuesday a new programme for developers of its Treo combination mobile phone and organiser line of devices. The programme will provide developers with free technical and marketing support to speed up the process of getting products to market. It covers development of applications for everything from email, instant messaging, gaming and health care. Registered developers will have access to developer forums, training, technical notes and other partner resources.

Handspring is in the process of moving its focus from making personal organisers to making its line of Treo communicators. The device manufacturer sold about 54,000 communicators in the second quarter, a 23 percent increase on the previous quarter.
