Vignette has released a new version of its business software, providing an update to the company's tools that create and add to Web pages for employees and business partners.

The software maker announced the availability of the new products, called Vignette Portal Suites, on Tuesday.

The software gives businesses the ability to build numerous Web sites and applications, all with the same set of tools, according to the company. Combined with Vignette's Web site authoring tools, the software is designed to help companies set up Web pages and create information delivered through them.

Vignette entered the market for so-called business portal software last year when it acquired software company Epicentric. The applications are designed to let companies make private Web pages where employees, customers and other business partners can get personal information, such as the number of vacation days they have, or do online self-service, such as place orders.

Such software, also developed by IBM, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and Plumtree Software, has remained relatively popular with businesses, while spending on other corporate software has sagged. Companies say the software can improve employee productivity and cut costs.

Licensing costs for Vignette Portal Suites begin at $150,000, the company said.
