Lindows, a start-up attempting to popularise Linux on the desktop, announced on Thursday that it would host awards for consumer Linux applications, giving the winners a total of $54,000. The company plans to give a "Clicky" award and, more importantly, prize money, to the top three applications in six categories: audio/MP3, business/finance, games, home/education, Internet, and multimedia/design.
Recipients of the Clicky awards, which will be announced on 31 August, will receive $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place. Users can nominate their favorite Linux app on Lindows' Web site.
