Five years ago: Fujitsu smashes dual-CPU server record

Fujitsu ICL outpaced its competitors and achieved the fastest result ever achieved by a dual-Pentium Pro server running Windows NT Server 4.0, according to TPC Benchmark C results published by the Japanese giant.

The Fujitsu Superserver J652i, a two-200MHz Pentium Pro-based server, beat the previous record for a dual processor server running Windows NT by eight per cent, Fujitsu ICL said. The result was also the second best price/performance speed achieved by any system, the firm claimed. The test was based on Microsoft's SQL Server 6.5 and dealt with simultaneous requests from 3,600 Web users.
