BEA Systems this week released the latest version of its WebLogic Server, this one targeting Web services.
Version 6.1 includes support for Web services standards such as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), WSDL (Web Services Description Language) and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration).
There is also instant Java-to-Web services code generation designed to bridge J2EE and Web services, enabling Java developers to deploy Java and EJB applications as Web services, and support for J2EE version 1.3 technologies.
Also included in the new version is support for the J2EE Connector Architecture, which enables businesses to integrate existing and legacy systems with e-business applications on the WebLogic platform. That feature is important in enabling businesses to extend their systems into e-business, said Eric Stahl, senior product marketing manager for the WebLogic Server.
"You can't simply contain that element of business within one app or in one database network," said Stahl, in San Jose, Calif.
The WebLogic Server version 6.1 is available now and can be downloaded at www.bea.com.
