Windows Me debut lacks excitement

Not only were there no Ferris wheels or live bands at Thursday's Windows Millennium launch just outside New York City: There were also no customers.
When Roosevelt Field shopping mall in the Manhattan suburb of Garden City, New York, opened its doors at 10 a.m., Microsoft employees were still putting the finishing touches on the company's understated "Meet Me" booth. There were no throngs of customers standing in long lines at midnight, as there were when the company launched Windows 95. Nor were there hordes of press people crowding into a marina-area warehouse, as occurred with the Windows 98 launch.
