UK-based computer manufacturer Space-Time Sytems has unveiled a range of pre-configured Debian GNU/Hurd PC systems.

GNU Hurd is the GNU foundations replacement for the Unix Kernel. This makes it a potential replacement for other popular Unix or Unix-based operating systems, including Linux.

Space-Time Systems based in Malvern, England, also offers GNU/Linux configured systems and adheres strongly to the principles of open-source software.

The Hurd operating system itself is not at a particularly advanced stage of development, offering just basic operating and programming environments. Hurd does, however, offer a high level of scalability and compatibility due to its object-orientated architecture.

Bizarrely enough, the official GNU Hurd Web site says that Hurd stands for "Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons", when "Hird" stands for "Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth". This makes Hurd, by the project's own admission, "the first software to be named by a pair of mutually recursive acronyms".

What do you think? Tell the Mailroom . And read what others have said.

So if you upgrade to XP SP3 you can't uninstall Internet Explorer, I'm quite sure I'm having a Deja-vu feeling about MS preventing people from uninstalling Internet Explorer in other Windows products.
