Software bug causes prison release glitch

According to an Italian court clerk's computer, convicted Mafia killers set for release from prison next week should have actually been set free on 10 January 1900.
Other prisoners awaiting trial were shown to have a hundred year wait before they would be called before the judge.
According to a report in today's Guardian, the glitch was officially blamed on the implementation of new software, rather than the millennium bug. The court's offices were closed while court officials checked computer files against hand-written records.
