The Abbey National Bank must have thought the millennium bug had struck early when one of its cash machines in County Durham began freely dispensing money to passers-by.

The machine malfunctioned and began giving out two twenty-pound notes whenever a customer requested a single withdrawal of twenty pounds. News of the demented cash machine soon spread around the district and people began queuing to take turns withdrawing extra cash.

One witness told the London Metro, "People were queuing along the street and around the corner. At one point people were singing 'Money, Money, Money,' and 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'."

What do you think? Tell the Mailroom. And read what others have said.
