In an interview with the BBC at Telecom 99, Scott McNealy CEO of Sun Microsystems has claimed he does not want to see Microsoft broken up.

As the high profile Department of Justice v Microsoft anti-trust trial draws to a close, there has been increasing speculation the software giant will be divided into several "baby Bills".

In the past McNealy has been portrayed as arch-rival to Microsoft chairman Bill Gates. Sun's Java competes with Microsoft and Sun recently did a deal to offer a free alternative to Microsoft Office -- StarOffice -- distributed via the Internet. Despite the history of antagonism, McNealy denies he is keen for Microsoft to be broken up, calling instead for the software giant to be prevented from investing in new companies.
