The company will open the two European offices to deliver software and support European businesses that are looking to move business and Interent systems to the Linux operating system.

The Red Hat UK and European headquarters will be based in Guildford in Surrey while the German office is in Stuttgart.

The company has also appointed Sybase's former vice-president and general manager for Europe Colin Tenwick to be its European vice-president.

"Businesses in Europe want localised Linux solution and service providers and the freedom of open source environments," said Tenwick.
