ICL wins BT millennium bug contract

BT has announced it's joining forces with ICL in on-going plans to ensure millennium compliance. The company is spending £350 million on millennium preparedness and anticipates that the bulk of the work on mainframes and networks will be completed by the end of this year.

ICL has been contracted by BT to audit 80,000 desktop computers and correct them where necessary. According to Alan Rowley, director of ICL's Year 2000 programme the company has seen a rise of 300% in orders from firms as "they act sooner rather than later".

BT does not anticipate any major problems in the desktop programme, which is described by a spokesman as: "A discrete exercise in our on-going programme to make all operations millennium compliant."
