Northwood Laboratories has dismissed industry claims that it is struggling to achieve sufficient sales by launching a leading edge range of PCs and saying it is still on target for sales of 3,000 PCs a month, by the end of the year.

John Bennett managing director of the Software Warehouse spin-off Northwood shrugged-off suggestions from rivals such as Gateway 2000 that Northwood is struggling and may not last the year. "Everything is going as planned," he said. "We're on target and we've just struck a big deal with a big car maker."

The company has also added an additional range to its PC portfolio called Sovereign. This is a "leading-edge range," according to Bennett, which will sit on top of existing Lynx and Aurora ranges.

Pricing starts at £1,999 + VAT for a Sovereign Pentium Pro with 256Kb cache, 64Mb RAM, 3.2Gb hard drive and 24-speed CD-ROM drive, and £2,145 + VAT for the Sovereign Pentium II 233MHz. These prices are preliminary and will change when Intel price cuts come into play.

This will be the company's only price cuts as a result of Intel's drop in chip costs. "We will up the spec of the other ranges rather than drop the prices," added Bennett.

Northwood is also introducing a dual Pentium 266MHz machine with Windows NT, 64Mb EDO RAM, Ultra ATA 3.2Gb EIDE hard drive, 24-speed CD-ROM and Matrox Millenium graphics accelerator. Prices start at £2,939 + VAT.

Northwood can be contacted by telephone on 01675-467753
