Psion Dacom increased its lead in the European PC Card market last year. It will continue to dominate despite the market dwindling and forcing increased competition, according to a report from Dataquest.

The PC Card market has already shown growth this year, but this will even out in 1998 and start declining by the year 2000. "The growth is not as strong as forecast," said Susan Thompson, telecommunications analyst at Dataquest. "The market as a whole will grow for another couple of years but the long term future is not good."

Thompson said that the plans of notebook and GSM phone makers to build cards into their respective devices would "severely limit" PC Card sales opportunities in the future.

In PC Card modems, Psion commanded a 15 per cent share of European revenues, followed closely by US Robotics (14 per cent), Hotline Export (10 per cent), Xircom (nine per cent) and TDK (eight per cent).
