First Aid rev adds UK nous

First Aid 97 (£35 incl. VAT, £15 upgrade), described by CyberMedia as "automatic technical support" pre-empts problems and fixes them on the fly, or warns the user of imminent problems. The heart of the program is a knowledge base of over 200 applications and the UK version has been specifically developed for UK versions of apps, the Californian company claims.
New features include a simplified user interface, one-button Check-Up facility, new crash protector and advisor function. The Deluxe version of the product (£50 incl. VAT) is bundled with a directory of UK support contacts, Windows 95 and Internet connection computer-based training programs, and Dr Solomon's FindVirus scanner.
Joe Malin, CyberMedia international product manager, said that automatic problem solving was a more useful model than utility toolkits. "[Symantec's] Norton Utilities is like having a set of very powerful tools for your car and if you don't know how to use them, your car will never work again. First Aid 97 is like having a mechanic in your house."
A version of the product for Windows 3.1 will be sold separately. All products will be widely available through catalogues and stores.
