Western Digital offers new Caviar platter

The three-platter 3.5-inch WD Caviar 4Gb drive will be followed by one and two platter models later, starting with a 1.2Gb single-platter model. The drive has an average seek time of 12ms and can transfer data at up to 16.6Mb/sec. It also features Smart technology which monitors and reports on the state of the drive.
