Fujitsu smartens up dumb terminals

Fujitsu ICL today announced a range of Windows-based Network Computers, as Netscape, Oracle and Sun closed ranks to oppose the conventional PC model.
The ErgoWin terminals will cut the cost of ownership by half, Fujitsu claimed. The devices comprise a 14-inch or 15-inch screen, keyboard, mouse and Ethernet connection and allow Internet and intra-net access. They use a specially designed front-end to run Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT applications from an application server.
The terminals feature multiple passwords; and network managers can prohibit users from downloading sensitive material. A 14-inch ErgoWin 2500 costs around £650 and terminals are available now.
