Secure Computing snaps up CyberGuard

Security equipment maker Secure Computing is bulking up by buying rival CyberGuard.
Secure Computing announced on Thursday that it was paying $295m (£165m) for CyberGuard. Both companies sell products such as firewalls, VPNs and web filtering tools, with Secure Computing more dominant in the high-end of the market and CyberGuard more established in the lower end.
Secure Computing claimed that the acquisition would give it more clout in the unified threat management and secure content management space.
The deal marks something of a reversal in fortunes for both firms -- almost a year ago CyberGuard failed in an attempt to take over Secure Computing. It comes just two days after Symantec announced it was buying Sygate.
