IPass to offer ID detection of mobile devices

IPass is set to offer mobile device recognition for IT managers that is designed to allow only trusted users onto their networks.
The company acquired the functionality through its recent acquisition of Safe3w, a software company that specialises in technology 'fingerprinting'.
Using fingerprinting, IT managers will know which mobile users are trying to access their network and whether they are doing so via a trusted device.
"This is an exciting day for us," said Jon Russo, VP of marketing for iPass. "Our customers could see the value of partnering with a firm like this. It lets you see who and where [users] are, and what device they are using."
Russo added that buying Safe 3w was company's first technology acquisition.
IPass, which currently services 500,000 users per month, hopes that the fingerprinting feature will be available by the end of this year.
Last month, iPass added Wi-Fi operator Broadreach to its 'global broadband roaming' network.
