Security solutions provider Trend Micro has released a fix for buffer overflow vulnerabilities found in its home user and corporate anti-virus packages.

Last month, Swedish security firm Texonet alerted Trend Micro of a flaw in the latter's PC-cillin and OfficeScan applications.

The bug is known to allow individuals to use a controlled buffer overflow to crash the anti-virus software.

Trend Micro said in a statement the bug is a "minor fault" as it could only be exploited by a local intruder and not remote hackers.

The company added there have been no reports of affected customers, but advised users to download the relevant patches from its Web site .

Fixes are currently available for English, German, French, Spanish and Italian versions of PC-cillin and OfficeScan.

Last month, Symantec issued a remedy for a serious bug in Norton Internet Security 2003 which deletes incoming email messages of some users.
