News Roundup: Infosec 2001 unfolds

Infosec is the UK's biggest event for computer security experts, companies and enthusiasts.
Infosec 2001 began in London this week and showed that, despite many technology companies exhibiting all the symptoms of economic downturn, fears about malicious computer hackers are still helping to build a healthy computer security industry.
This year's highlights have included keynotes on the latest hacking techniques, ways to protect corporate networks and mobile devices.
The timing of the event is also significant because the UK Government only last week announced the launch of a new body designed to combat computer crime, the National High Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU). Perhaps the most interesting story from the show, however, was the Hacker Challenge, cracked before the show even began. The competition -- to break into a Web server protected by technology from Argus Systems -- showed that in some areas computer hackers are still ahead of the game.
