Egg takes steps to mend call centre blunder

Online banking service Egg has admitted sending at least one of its customers their personal credit card details in unencrypted email message over the Internet.

Egg, a division of Prudential, has confessed to this blunder but claims that it does not represent a breach of its computer security measures. "This was human error," says a spokeswoman. "It was basically call centre staff who didn't know what details they could send out to people. They've certainly got the message now."

This spokeswoman also says that customers needn't fear that this occurrence will be repeated adding, "We have apologised to the person in question and have taken active steps to ensure that it won't happen again."
