Powergen coughs up £50 and an apology

Shamed utility giant Powergen is offering £50 compensation to those hit by the security breach that potentially hit 7,000 users.

Mike Wagner, Powergen's retail managing director apologised for the incident, and claimed that new security procedures had been introduced. A freephone hotline has been set up (0800 0157755), which advises customers to cancel their credit cards.

The online transaction site as been closed down and will remain so until Powergen is happy that all its customers' details are safe.
