Cabinet Office sees 'Project Pygmalion' progress

The Cabinet Office has begun to sign up companies for a new IT supplier framework.

Project Pygmalion has been set up by the Electronic Delivery Team (EDT) to provide a catalogue of suppliers to support its work on the Government Gateway, the registration website for online services.

The arrangement will last for four years and cover individual short-term projects with values up to £250,000. The framework will also be available to other public-sector organisations.

A spokesperson for the Cabinet Office told GC News that 18 companies — specialists in areas such as security and identity assurance — had signed up to the framework shortly before Christmas.

The tender for the framework was put out in April 2007 and the memorandum of understanding agreed in early November.

A supplier briefing document from the Cabinet Office says Pygmalion is aimed at providing efficiency savings, economies of scale and a transparent management of costs.
