BT has acquired a firm of IT consultants to bolster its expansion into North America.

The telco said on Thursday that it will buy International Network Services Inc (INS), which has, in the past at least, won contracts with three-quarters of the Fortune 500, the company claims. California-based INS designs and installs networks for larger businesses, employing around 900 staff.

"The INS business is another great services acquisition for us," said Andy Green, chief executive officer of BT Global Services. "It significantly boosts our ability to supply world-class professional services to US-headquartered corporations and increases BT's presence in the key North-American market."

The acquisition follows the purchase 15 months ago of the similarly-named TNS, another services company that builds local area networks.
