Mario Monti, the ex-EC competition commissioner who played an instrumental role in the landmark antitrust judgement against Microsoft, has found a new job.

Monti, who left his EC post last year, has now accepted an offer to become international adviser to investment bank Goldman Sachs.

He will also sit on Goldman Sach's research advisory council, which advises the bank on policy issues relating to Europe and the public policy.

Monti, also known for his hard line on the merger between AOL and Time Warner, is currently chairman of the Board of the Brussels European and Global Economic Laboratory (Bruegel) and president of the Bocconi University in Milan, where he previously studied.
