Capgemini wins Met Police tech deal

The Metropolitan Police has signed a seven-year £350m contract with Capgemini UK to provide ICT services, the Met said on Thursday.
Capgemini will collaborate with Unisys and BT to provide ICT support, including the management of all Met IT networks. The Met has 30,000 desktops and laptops.
All crime reporting, analysis and records storage software will also be covered by the contract, as will all telephony and mobile devices. The Met has 38,000 telephone extensions and 8,500 mobile phones.
Capgemini are managing the bulk of the services, including technology consultancy. Unisys will manage applications, and some datacentre and desktop services. BT will manage the Met wide and local area networks, fixed line and mobile telephony.
"Working as a single team with the Met, we will deliver value, effective governance and innovation from transition to ongoing service management," Bob Scott, Capgemini Metropolitan Police Service client director, said in a statement.
Capgemini won the contract from Atos Orign, EDS and Damovo. Capgemini, Unisys and BT are collaborating under the umbrella term CUBIT.
CUBIT will use the existing infrastructure left by the incumbents.
Capgemini, along with EDS, was involved in the recent tax credits system that suffered from a litany of problems and was described as a "nightmare" by MPs.
