Mandriva, the Linux seller formed by Mandrake's acquisition of Conectiva earlier this year, said on Wednesday it has acquired assets from another smaller company in the same business, Lycoris. Lycoris CEO Joseph Cheek will join Mandriva to develop "a new and advanced Linux desktop product," Paris-based Mandriva said.

Lycoris focused on selling desktop Linux, but struggled. In a November note on Lycoris' Web site, Cheek said, "Currently I conclude that our business model is not sustainable, and have decided to make some other fundamental changes," including cutting staff and products.
