The UK Ministry of Defence is developing a new technology infrastructure to manage wheeled and tracked vehicles.

Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (James 1) will give the military a firmer control over its ability to allocate equipment and plan activities with trucks, tanks and other vehicles.

It is expected to provide considerable savings for the MoD once operational. The project is due to run until 2011, although the initial operating capability is due in July 2005.

The Logistics Applications Integrated Project Team (LA IPT) in the Defence Logistics Organisation is overseeing the project. The Ministry of Defence recently awarded a £20m contract to Lockheed Martin UK and partners IFS Defence, LogicaCMG and INSYS to provide the information systems as a managed service to the LA IPT.

The Engineering and Asset Management Capability Change Team is developing the relevant business processes.
