Government drafts e-planning blueprint

The government has issued a blueprint that aims to provide the UK with a "world class" e-planning service.
The strategy takes forward a national programme to help councils make their planning services more accessible through IT.
Planning minister Keith Hill said: "We must make sure the planning system is open and accessible to everyone in the community and better e-planning is a great way of doing that.
"Whether checking on individual planning applications or looking at the local plan, new technology gives people a way in from the comfort of their own home."
The blueprint, issued on 13 August, 2004, aims to coordinate the wide range of e-planning initiatives already under way across local authorities in the UK.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has made the blueprint available for public consultation before it makes further decisions on how to take the programme forward.
Kable's Chairman, William Heath, will be speaking on the software licensing panel at the ZDNet UK IT Priorities Conference on 29 September, 2004. For more information, see below.
