UK e-unit Web site goes live

A new website for the UK's e-Government Unit, replacing the e-envoy's homepage, is now available
The Office of the e-Envoy (OeE) has been consigned to the Whitehall scrap heap, completing its transition to become the e-Government Unit on 2 June, 2004.
Visitors to the e-envoy.gov.uk are redirected to a new (longwinded) web address giving almost exactly the same information as the old site.
A biography of Ian Watmore, the new head of e-government, is one addition to the site in a section giving information on the e-Government Unit Strategic Management Board.
The home page still has a section on outgoing e-envoy Andrew Pinder, who is to be replaced by Watmore in September 2004.
A Cabinet Office spokesperson could give no further details on the website but said that the transition to the new unit is now underway.
"It is expected that the majority of staff will remain as they do now in Stockley House [the OeE building]," the spokesperson said. "We are working on the transition, which is scheduled to be completed by 1 September."
