PC World speeds up hardware hiring

A new rental scheme from PC World aims to let small businesses arrange the hire of IT equipment in minutes, rather than having to wait days to have a deal approved.
The retailer announced this week that it has teamed up with Australian company RentSmart to create the service, called SmartPlan. It will allow SMEs to fix up a deal to rent IT equipment -- such as servers, printers and PCs -- up to a total of £15,000.
According to PC World, some companies are put off from arranging loan deals for IT kit because the process can be too convoluted and slow. It claims that existing business finance arrangements can take several days to organise, and that SmartPlan makes faster and more convenient for a firm to upgrade its IT equipment through an on-the-spot rental agreement.
"Until now, banks and other financiers in the UK haven't been able to meet the needs of point-of-sale finance for retailers. They simply haven't had the automation of systems to be able to credit check and turn around small transactions in the time customers require, and with the efficiencies to make doing so worthwhile," claimed Ned Montarello, RentSmart's founder and managing director, in a statement.
"A small business doesn't want to jump through the same hoops for financing a £1,000 PC as it would for a larger facility, so our systems have cut through this, delivering a convenient point-of-sale service," Montarello added.
SmartPlan will launch on 5 May at PC World's 120 UK stores.
