TiVo and 20th Century Fox have signed an agreement that lets the movie studio deliver promotions to TiVo customers in the US.

Beginning Monday, 20th Century Fox will offer an exclusive preview of its upcoming movie "Daredevil" to TiVo customers. The promotion will extend to five movies throughout the year and potentially feature movie trailers, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

The promotion is part of TiVo's efforts to attract advertisers who want to offer specialised campaigns. Advertisements are stored on allotted space on the hard drive of a TiVo digital video recorder (DVR). Consumers can then watch specialised promotions during regular TV viewing.

TiVo has struck deals with the entertainment industry in the past, including promotions for movies such as "8 Mile", "Red Dragon" and "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers". The company has also promoted new music releases from U2, No Doubt and Sheryl Crow.

The UK version of TiVo does not currently offer such special features, but may do in the future, according to a TiVo representative.

In addition to taping television shows onto a hard drive, DVRs let viewers pause or review live TV.

TiVo has licensed its recording technology to other consumer electronics manufacturers such as Sony and Toshiba. TiVo also has a deal with DirecTV to include its recording technology in some of the satellite TV provider's set-top boxes.
