Disabled jobseekers snubbed by employers

Over one million disabled people are looking for work, but employers say they are unaware of it, with 75 per cent claiming they have never had the opportunity to hire a disabled person.

Research from totaljobs' partner, jobability.com, shows only 28 per cent of companies employ disabled workers.

Almost a third of employers say they do not have the facilities to employ disabled people, even though the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 states they must remove or alter any physical barriers in the workplace.

A quarter of bosses say they are reluctant to hire disabled jobseekers because of other people's attitudes, while 42 per cent say that costs involved prevent employers from hiring them.
