CeBIT boss expects good turnout

The turnout for the CeBIT 2002 trade show in Hanover this March will at least match last year's attendance, Klaus Goehrmann, head of expo organisers Hannover Messe, told Wirtschaftswoche. About 850,000 visitors turned up to CeBIT 2001. For 2002, the trade show expects to tally at least 800,000 attendees.

In recent months, technology-focused conferences have suffered from poor attendance because of many companies changing travel plans in response to economic uncertainty and to the security fears following the 11 September attacks in New York.

Goehrmann said that CeBIT expects its expenditure on special and risk insurance to double this year, adding to the trade show's financial burden. However, he added, there won't be any security clampdown at the expo and attendees will not be asked to go through bag searches.
