News Burst: M-commerce bluster doesn't pay off

At this time last year, all the high street banks were competing to take their customers onto the mobile Internet, teaming up with infrastructure providers and all the major wireless networks. But a year later, m-commerce services on mobile phone are still difficult to find.

The lack of services underscores the failure of the first wave of Internet-capable mobiles to capture the public imagination, and raises new doubts about how network operators will be able to make next-generation systems pay off, say industry experts.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
