Ariba move to provide more online data
Published: 25 Jan 2001 17:14 GMT
Ariba is teaming with e-commerce software maker Vignette to add collaboration and community-building applications to its business-to-business software products.
Under the terms of the agreement, Vignette's content management and personalisation software will be included in the Ariba B2B Commerce Platform product line, the companies said in a joint statement. Suppliers using the combined product will be able to provide content and product data about their goods to help promote them on marketplaces, or online exchanges. Buyers will be able to interact with catalogues and other applications, according to the companies.
No financial details were disclosed.
The move exemplifies what analysts consider the second phase of growth for business-to-business exchanges, in which marketplace software makers and marketplace owners are adding more value to their product lines through applications that do more than just enable online transactions.
MetalSpectrum, a marketplace serving the metals industry, has been using the combined software products from Ariba and Vignette to provide industry information to those buying and selling on the site.
"Vignette's solution enables MetalSpectrum to provide industry content and user personalisation for our customers that will keep them coming back to our site," Bill Murphy, MetalSpectrum's chief technology officer, said in a statement.
Based in Mountain View, California, Ariba is one of the leading business-to-business software makers. Vignette, which is based in Austin, Texas, builds publishing software and personalisation tools for e-commerce.
