Exclusive: Jobs bucks up Apple staff

Apple chief Steve Jobs on Wednesday addressed employees of the struggling Mac maker in a closed-door, all-hands "communications meeting" convened to discuss Apple's recent warning of a substantial loss for the first fiscal quarter.

According to sources at the short gathering on Apple's Cupertino, California, campus, a contrite Jobs expressed embarrassment over the poor results, which Apple on Tuesday predicted will result in a loss of up to $250m for the quarter ending 30 December.

Jobs echoed the prescription for recovery that he and Apple chief financial officer Fred Anderson had spelled out to analysts during a Tuesday conference call and hinted about some new products in the pipeline for the coming months.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
