A Scottish bank manager has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register after a court convicted him of downloading more than 100 images of child pornography from a hoax Web site set up by US police.

Paul Chalmers, 43, was charged for downloading indecent pictures onto his computer's hard drive from the "stinger" site that was designed to trap offenders and record their email addresses.

"I came across pornography and stuff that included children and have seen that, but that is all," Chalmers told a court Tuesday. A police raid of his house in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian however found more than 100 images of children in explicit sexual acts to be saved on his home PC.

Edinburgh sheriff Isobel Poole ruled Tuesday that Chalmers should be placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and his computer has been forfeited. Sentencing has been deferred for background reports.

Chalmers left his management position at the Royal Bank of Scotland in July, reports the Daily Record Wednesday. He admitted making indecent images of children between 13 July, 1998 and 6 January, last year.
