The Love Bug has bitten the US.

Several users across America have reported the Melissa-like virus referred to as "ILOVEYOU", which apparently started in Asia, has attacked their PCs. The virus deletes data and sends itself to email addresses listed in the Microsoft Outlook address book.

A security firm has estimated the virus is spreading many times faster than the destructive Melissa, and has already forced several large organisations in Europe -- including Britain's House of Commons and AT&T -- to shut down their mail servers.

Users receive an innocuous-seeming email asking the user to open an attachment called LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs. Viewing the attachment, however, launches the virus attack.

Software protecting against ILOVEYOU is available here.

See the full report here.

What do you think? Tell the Mailroom. And read what others have said.
