Business portal firm grabs content management tools

Enterprise information portals are closely watched because they offer the promise of being able to access key data from within and without organisations regardless of the user’s location, and in a dashboard-like format. SageMaker said that the Global Recall purchase will make document management and knowledge management information seamless across desktops and the Web.
SageMaker will fold in elements of Global Recall technology to create a single portal where email, intranet applications, Lotus Notes databases, Microsoft Exchange folders and external information such as quote systems can be accessed, and Windows files such as Microsoft Word documents can be saved for viewing on a standard desktop or via the SageWave user interface.
"It takes the desktop into the browser and the browser into the desktop," said Dan Hoogterp, chief technical officer of SageMaker.
Hoogterp said SageMaker is also looking to acquire technologies that will let EIP users view "tip of the iceberg" elements of legacy systems so that, for example, users would not need training on PeopleSoft human resources systems.
